The Glory Of A Garden
Ruth Wallace

The glory found in  gardens lies in more  than meets the eye-
The scent of rose and  lilac rises from earth to  heaven's sky;
A chirping sparrow  joins the song of  the  meadowlark and wren,
Soft whirring of the  hummingbird,
 and winds sighing in the glen.

The ladybug, the butterfly,
 the furry bumblebee-
Release our minds to soar again
 o'er earth, and sky and sea;
Dew's dampness, touching senses,
 leaves wet pearls upon the lawn;
New fragrances of summer
 bring fresh blown winds at dawn.

As colors brighten gardens,
 hues of red and blue and green-
They echo nature's wonders
 in rainbow's varied gleam;
Within the city's madness
 gardens hold a special place-
Renewing soul and spirit
 with a touch of country grace.
